Royal Tank Regiment Cap Badge King's Crown

The Royal Tank Regiment Cap Badge is a WW2 badge given to members of the Royal Tank Regiment (previously known as Tank Corps). The badge is struck in white metal and depicts a WW1 tank in the center, surrounded by a laurel wreath and surmounted by a King George V crown. Under the tank is the inscription "Fear Naught".


A ROYAL TANK REGIMENT CAP BADGE

The Royal Armoured Corps (RAC) was formed on 4 April 1939, just months before the outbreak of the Second World War (1939-45). This makes it one of the younger corps in the British Army. However, it is also unique in that it was not formed by amalgamating existing corps into a single overarching unit.

Royal Tank Regiment Cap Badge King's Crown

Silver plastic headdress badge to the Royal Tank Regiment, being a laurel wreath with tips joined by an Imperial (King's) crown, across the bottom of the wreath a scroll, bearing the motto, FEAR NAUGHT. Across the centre of the wreath an early pattern tank, full side on, facing left. Remnants of a pair of blades to reverse.

This tank arm badge was designed by Col Ernest Swinton in 1916 and was worn from the Summer of 1917 by all tank crewmen. A very similar arm badge is worn by members of the Royal Tank Regiment to this day. The Black Lanyard During the First World War each battalion was allocated a different coloured shoulder strap.
